Welcome to the official website of the Vadanappally Welfare Association (VAWE), a humanitarian organization established in 1980 by the late Dawood Haji. For over four decades, we have been serving the underprivileged populations of Vadanappally village in Kerala, India through sustainable welfare programs and community development initiatives.

About Us

The Vadanappally Welfare Association (VAWE) was established nearly 45 years ago by the visionary Dawood Haji, bringing together non-resident Indians working in the UAE who shared a deep commitment to their homeland. What began as an informal brotherhood of compassion has evolved into a cornerstone of support for Vadanappally's most vulnerable residents. For over four decades, we have lived by our founding principle: to always be there for those in need and to give abundantly to the poor—a tradition of service we proudly continue for future generations. Now formalizing as the Dawood Trust of Vadanappally, we honor our founder's legacy while expanding our vision to include specialized healthcare facilities and broader community development initiatives.

  • Ongoing challenges, particularly in addressing social inequalities and ensuring access to education and healthcare.
  • Social security measures in enhancing food security and reducing effective poverty rates.
  • World Bank reports that while progress has been made, challenges remain in ensuring sustainable poverty reduction and addressing the needs of the most vulnerable populations.
  • A study by the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) in 2020 found that India’s urban housing shortage rose by 54% to 29 million in 2018 from 18.78 million in 2012. This includes households that were homeless, lived in inadequate houses, or lived in congested conditions.

President's Message

From the President's Desk

It is with profound humility and a deep sense of responsibility that I address you as the President of the Vadanappally Welfare Association (VAWE). Our organization stands as a testament to the enduring vision of my late father, Dawood Haji, who founded this association nearly 45 years ago with a simple yet powerful principle: to always be there for those in need and to give abundantly to the poor.

The journey of VAWE began when a small group of non-resident Indians in the UAE, led by my father, decided that despite living and working abroad, our hearts and responsibilities remained tied to our beloved Vadanappally. What started as informal assistance to a few families has grown into a comprehensive support system touching thousands of lives over the decades.

Today, as we formalize our association into a registered entity in Vadanappally, we honor my father’s memory by institutionalizing his vision. This transformation allows us not only to continue our existing programs but to expand our impact through new initiatives such as a palliative care unit and dialysis center in Vadanappally.

Our work spans across multiple dimensions of community welfare – from pensions for elderly families and housing for the homeless to educational scholarships for bright young minds and medical assistance for those unable to afford healthcare. Each program represents our commitment to creating lasting positive change in our community.

As we move forward, we invite you to join us in this mission – whether through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading awareness about our cause. Together, we can build upon the foundation laid by our founders and create a more equitable, compassionate Vadanappally.

I pledge to honor my father’s legacy by upholding the values of compassion, integrity, and generosity that defined his life while ensuring complete transparency in all our operations: every contribution, every effort matters in our collective journey toward community transformation.

Thank you for your support and trust in VAWE.

Warm regards,

Noushad Dawood, President, VAWE

KEY OPERATIVE OBJECTIVES

Social Welfare Programs

We support underprivileged individuals and families through various welfare initiatives. This includes monthly pensions and health check-ups for elderly citizens, building homes and repairing shelters for the homeless, offering financial aid for marriages, and distributing food and emergency supplies during festivals and crises.

Educational Development

Our focus on education includes scholarships for deserving students, funding for school supplies and transport, and support for higher education. We also help improve school infrastructure, establish libraries, and promote digital literacy. Vocational training and apprenticeships are offered to prepare youth for meaningful employment.

Healthcare Initiatives

We provide essential medical support such as funding for treatments and medicines, and work with local providers to ensure quality care. We are developing a palliative care unit and a dialysis center in Vadanappally, while also running health camps, disease awareness campaigns, and nutrition programs for those in need.

Community Development

We aim to improve living conditions through better infrastructure like roads, clean water, and community centers. Our environmental efforts include waste management and renewable energy promotion. We also empower women through microfinance, skill development, and support against gender discrimination.

Organisational Governance and Sustainability

We ensure transparency with detailed financial records, regular audits, and public reports. To sustain our work, we raise funds from NRIs, partner with companies, and apply for grants. We measure our impact regularly and maintain strong communication with all stakeholders to involve the community in our mission.
